State Hermitage
Russia, St-Petersburg

The State Hermitage is one of the oldest and largest museums in the world. The museum is located in 5 historical buildings of St.Petersburg, including the Winter Palace - the former residence of Russian tsars. The buildings of the museum, by themselves, are architectural chef d'oeuvres. The collections of the Hermitage number over 3 million items from prehistoric to modern times. Magnificent works of art embracing prehistoric culture, Egyptian art, the art of Antiquity, Scythian gold, and great collections of Western-European paintings and sculptures are displayed in 400 halls of the museum.

The total number of Broadway 3D devices, installed In the State Hermitage, is 7. The system has been working in identification mode for more than a year. More than 1000 persons every day go through the 3D face recognition system. The identification time is 1 sec per person. Broadway 3D activates and deactivates cards of employees at 6 checkpoints. One camera works in registration mode.

Front-door security of the 21st cetury

...But the threat can be not just external but also internal. After the case of ‘theft from the Hermitage’ the internal security policy was reconsidered in the biggest Russian museum. Now all the staff members of the fund storage are supplied with access control cards so that all their movements are regulated firmly by the security services. The rights are assigned on the program level since every staff member has his or her own routes and to Oleg Boev if the person is occupied on the first floor then he or she has no need to work on the fifth floor so he or she won’t be able to access there.

The first 'check point' that is faced by the staff members when they come to work is the point of the biometric control where they should 'show their face'. Until the person is identified his or her access card remains blocked. Operation principle of the biometric system is based on the analysis of the brainpan parameters that is why any external changes (such as dental abscess, bump on the head, change of a hairdo, etc.) present no obstacle for the identification. Usually biometric security systems work on identifying faces by the comparison of the number of dots. The system installed in the Staraya Derevnya is more advanced; here the so called mask of curvature is laid over the parameters so the identification is possible for full face and half face and it is impossible to trick it by presenting a photograph. The scanner also reads the heat coefficient so the identification can be passed only by a live person,three-dimensional and warm.

The biometric system combined with the personal access cards is a perfect front-doorsecurity. The control points (turnstiles) of the fund storage are fully automatic: if you are identified as ‘the insider’ and you provided the activated access card then you may entre. The keys to the storage rooms are also issued automatically. At the same time the operator of the security services at any point can receive the information about the location of any employee. "This can be called total control," says Oleg Boev. "Perhaps, this is not proper but should special circumstances arise then we can receive a full report about the actions of any employee 'inside' and 'out'. I would like to mention that besides the main console there is also my console, the system that exercise surveillance functions over the security services employees. We were bound to enter this level of control.

Sberbank
Russia, Moscow

Sberbank today is the largest credit institution in Russia and CIS, accounting for 27% of the aggregate Russian banking assets and 26% of banking capital. According to The Banker magazine, as of 1 July 2010, Sberbank was ranked 43th in the world in terms of Tier 1 capital.

“We’d like to recognize each one of our 70 million customers by face and by habits, we’d like to react ‘on-line’ to everyone’s complaints and suggestions”,

— Herman Gref, has explained as the purpose of the creation of ”Office Of The Future”.

During the client’s FIRST visit to the bank office, he is met by the biometric 3D-recognition system and the 3D Self-Registration Terminal that registers a new customer. A 3D portrait of the client is seen on the monitor. At the Interactive Panel the client enters his data (name and surname) into the system and chooses necessary services. The entire procedure takes less than two minutes. During any SUBSEQUENT visit of this client to the bank office he would be recognized by his face automatically in 1 second.

While the client is walking upstairs to the customer service zone on the first floor, the bank specialists already know the approximate list of bank products their customer needs since they have all statistics of the client’s previous visits.

In the “Sberbank of Russia” concept “Office Of The Future” Artec Group inc. has produced and integrated the following solutions

3D Self-Registration Booth

The client independently registers the 3D face image in a self-registration booth. Then the information is saved in a database of the bank. The 3D image associates with the client’s card. The 3D image can be synchronized with specially entered information of the client: what credits he is interested in, what contributions, etc.

ATM

Before the beginning of an operation with a bank card the client undergoes a verification procedure. Only if his face coincides with the 3D image recorded in the Database will the ATM dispense cash or permit any other operation. With the bank card.

Broadway at Reception

All the client’s information appears simultaneously on the monitor after client’s identification on the Broadway reception device. This is individual service – the reception employee is in advance informed as to what questions usually interest this client.

Broadway in Access Control

The local database allows protection of an entrance to a vip-business hall

Virtual booth

At this booth, the regular customer, without entering personal data, and simply having been identified by the Broadway 3D, can receive helpful service on the device.
