Typical scenarios
for the use of Broadway 3D
Typical scenarios for the integration of the Broadway 3D system into access control systems are described here. These scenarios may be regarded as a point of departure, allowing users to familiarize themselves with Broadway 3D's integration scheme in an existing or planned access control system. Typical solutions permit the volume of work to be estimated approximately, and help determine the selection of essential equipment.
It is assumed that Broadway 3D operates in a protected environment, i.e. that the data transfer lines are defended from unauthorized access.
The Officesolution
A serverless solution, applied during the initial testing and organization of Broadway 3D access control to a large site or in the context of a small office.
Uses one device (i.e. its local database) as visitor database storage. All devices at transit points work from a unified visitor database.
Visitor registration (re-registration) is carried out at any of the transit points via a Web interface, or on a separate registration device with the software Artec Enrollment Application (TEA). Simultaneous registration at several transit points is not supported. The addition and deletion of visitors is realized through a Web interface or TEA. The operational parameters of each of the transit points are set individually.
To ensure that the complex operates reliably, there must be a dependable network (LAN) connection of all access points with the unit where the visitor database is located.
Transit points are opened by means of relay or transmission of Wiegand CID to the ACS controller.
Key features of this solution
- Low cost
- Space-saving implementation
- Acceptable security level
Basic Data
Number of transit
points
1—3
Number of visitor
registration points

Size of visitor
database
1—500
Modes

Format of visitor

MySQL base in the format
Artec Biometric DB
Advantages
- Ease of customization and installation
- Low cost
Disadvantages
- Less dependable in comparison with the corporate solution. Breakdown of individual parts may lead to a total system failure.
- Unwieldy management of the package in potential circumstances (in the event of future expansion of the system) where the recommended restrictions on the number of transit (or registration) points, or on the size of the visitor database, are exceeded.
Variations
Where necessary, a stand-alone device for the organization of isolated registration points may be used.
Office serversolution
The scenario is analogous to the serverless solution, with the exception of the use of a discrete server in which to house the visitor database.
In order to operate in verification mode requires the presence of a complete access control infrastructure using Wiegand cards. In such a case Broadway 3D is installed between card reader and the ACS controller
The visitor database should be installed on a discrete junction, where a back-up copy must be ensured.
Key features of this solution
- Low cost
- A high level of security
- Increased reliability in recognition device operability
- The possibility of tracking work time

Disadvantages
- Less dependable by comparison with the corporate solution. Breakdown of equipment parts (of the visitor database server) may lead to a total system failure.
- The management of a large number of transit points and visitors without the use of separately developed tools may prove to be rather complicated and inconvenient.
Corporatesolution
What is important in scenarios for the use of Broadway 3D in the corporate sector is operational system reliability, good scalability of the solution, and a guarantee of high security with the assistance of a complex approach (multilevel authorization).
In order to realize this scenario, a close integration of Broadway 3D into the existing or planned ACS is required.
For the centralized management of the whole complex, which includes Broadway 3D, a separate application (ACS+Broadway 3D) is required, which will effectively resolve this task. The management of transit points with Broadway 3D may be realized with the assistance of Artec Broadway 3D SDK and Artec Database SDK.
Transit points may be operated in different modes (for instance, this may be determined by the security level of a zone).
ACS+Broadway 3D may control the condition of a transit point and may configure it with the assistance of Artec Broadway 3D SDK. In addition the biometric template of the registered visitor is received with the assistance of this SDK.
It is possible to manage the visitor list at the transit point with the assistance of Artec Database SDK, which works directly with the local device's database. For increased reliability and security Broadway 3D utilizes only a local visitor database. The local visitor database contains only that list of visitors which was loaded from the main database, and which is fully controlled by the ACS+Broadway 3D. In this way, the integrator who develops ACS+Broadway 3D, is free to choose the technical means to perform the storage of visitor data. The sole requirement on the part of Broadway 3D with regard to storage is the presence there of the biometric data and of some metadata, which, in its turn, is loaded onto the local Broadway 3D database. The process for renewing the local Broadway 3D database depends on the requirements presented. For example, ACS+Broadway 3D may renew the database at the transit points according to a schedule, or immediately after an addition (or alteration) to the visitor database.
Besides this, when a constant network connection with the transit points is present, ACS+Broadway 3D may perform event monitoring (results of recognition, etc.).
The statistics for recognition are stored in the Broadway 3D local database and accordingly may be acquired by ACS+Broadway 3D and stored in the main database.
